Lorwyn common. The lowly Shields of Velis Vel is in some ways the perfect Limited trick???not because it’s consistently as back-breaking as a well-timed Neck Snap or Triclopean Sight (to say nothing of the Briarhorn), but because it’s super-cheap, it’s occasionally ruinous, and nobody ever sees it coming. Want to charge up that Pack’s Disdain or Distant Melody? Shields. Need to save your creatures from Eyeblight’s Ending or Thundercloud Shaman? Shields! Caught in an awkward spot, unable to prowl or champion? Really need to hit that kinship? Not the most exciting use of it, but… Shields! And, of course, with a Borderland Behemoth in play, the little instant can make for a VERY big surprise.
